The noted eel & pie house in Leytonstone is very good, certainly better than Nathan’s in my humble opinion. I never thought Nathan’s was all that. Much preferred Duncan’s opposite UP station.

I don't think it's necessary to use the word "bloody" though, is it?
This is a family forum.

Alright Gary, not 100% but nearest proper one is probably Leytonstone High Road, corner of Cathall Rd. But then again you are actually in Hackney at that shithole so some clever cunt will name a crap hipster one there. When I was at school in Forest Gate they’re was one down Pelly Road we’d use at lunchtime. Hope you are well fella, I’m done with that club, just come on here and look at non football stuff now and again.

It's sad, cos it was a part of West Ham culture.
But it's gone now.
Things change.
It's unfortunate for the proprietors, but that's just bad luck innit blud.
Them's the facts of life fam.

'I count Nathan’s, Ken’s Cafe, and the Boleyn pub in that. There are others worthy of protection, the same as listed buildings are protected.'
I see your point but if that was the case it would be the responsibility of L B Newham, not West Ham United FC

Would imagine they would have done brisk trade during the re development of UP with all those tradesman and builders, since that finished I expect the locals would want a bit more chilli than just in the vinegar?
Just part of the changing demographics of the area , maybe match days kept them going a bit longer but its hardly the first east end pie and mash shop to close down is it, along with numerous pubs and traditional style greasy spoon cafes.
Still sad to see it go though.

I get it Norm, just not sure how much more they could really do for the business around the area.

Does Raj from the offy get a lifeline as he had a lot of custom on match days get a lifeline or is it only the traditional places and the bloke who sold sweets?
Norman, I get what you are saying with the pubs, they largely survive by making themselves restaurants these days and not many landlords want to do that. That’s their call but that would be the way to adapt. Again, the area doesn’t really do well on non-match days so whether the locals would venture into these restaurant/pubs is another question. That sort of thing would thrive in Essex as that’s all the rage. Again adapting if wanting to stay in business.

Inevitable, but no less sad for that.
If the 3 leeches had the slightest care for our traditions, they would have found a way to ensure that certain institutions would have some kind of lifeline ensured at the new stadium. I count Nathan’s, Ken’s Cafe, and the Boleyn pub in that. There are others worthy of protection, the same as listed buildings are protected.
Brady was too busy flicking her bean over the VIP lounge and fancy restaurant to bother with the likes of Nathan’s.
Popcorn and £7 hotdogs is where it’s at these days.

No deception. Sometimes in life & business you take a look at things and decide it’s time to call it quits. Normal for business people. Give the conspiracy stuff a rest. Mark is younger and on the up. Richard has had his best days. No story here.

Re: Nathans

The likes of Nathan's & all those pubs would've closed down 20 years ago If West Ham wasn't on there doorstep.
I always have sympathy for any long standing business that has to close but as I said earlier you can't expect to rely on a football club playing on your doorstep 20 times a year for revenue to keep you going. That is not a good business plan.
As far as the owners saying they will consult with local businesses and maybe help them relocate I think that was never a realistic option when you consider the extra cost of moving to Stratford and I think the likes of Nathan's probably realised that.
